BACKGROUND:
I began my annual holiday cookie-palooza today with one batch done and a batch of dough chilling till tomorrow. And my family likes cookies.
Family is sitting at the table eating dinner. M pushes her plate away.
M: M. want a cookie.
Mary Anne: Those cookies are for our friends, not for us to eat. Can we give them to our friends?
M: No. M want to eat them.
Mary Anne: You sound like Daddy.
M: M not Daddy, this M (patting her chest).
Professor laughs heartily while I try to explain what I meant.
M: Daddy funny. (since he's laughing...)
A few minutes later we're still discussing the cookies which are a sort of gingersnap.
Mary Anne: You may not like the cookies, they might be spicy.
M: They not spicy; they yummy.
(To our knowledge she not only had never had a gingersnap before, but didn't even know what kind of cookie they were.)
The Professor laughs some more...
We discuss what a great blog post this would make, with M repeating the lines that made us laugh as we talk. The Professor gets tickled again and starts to laugh.
M: (turning to me) Daddy funny again.
Which makes him laugh even harder...
M: Daddy make M laugh. (She's not laughing though)
